What to wear horse riding – for practicality and comfort

Before you go swinging up into the saddle it’s important to ensure you are wearing the correct attire for both comfort and safety.

Our recommended items include:

  • Helmet
  • Boots (with a small heel)
  • Breeches or Jodhpurs
  • Shirt
  • Boot Socks
  • Non-Chafing Underwear
  • Gloves
  • Half Chaps
  • Jacket or Vest (Optional)
  • Safety Vest (Optional)
  • Belt (Optional)

A few bonus tips:

Just remember, a compliant riding helmet is required for your riding safety.

Long pants like jeans, breeches, or jodhpurs will help protect your legs best as shorts and inner leg pant seams can quickly chafe and cause discomfort.

Wear boots with a small heel so your feet don’t accidentally get caught in your stirrups should you fall or be thrown off. These add a little bit of protection to your feet also.

A long or short sleeved shirt is also ideal to ensure it doesn’t get caught up or tangled in your horse’s riding equipment.

At Dusty Girl we develop riding fashion for women that is practical, comfortable and stylish. Check out our current lines in the online store.

Always wear a cap or hat when outside, grooming, prepping to ride and working.

Always wear sunscreen on your, face, neck, ears, décolletage, hands and exposed skin on arms etc. And sunnies if you can to protect your eyes.
